[{"type":"text","content":"\n Syntopix Group plc\n01 August 2006\n\n\nFor immediate release 1 August 2006\n\n \n \n SYNTOPIX GROUP PLC\n\n ('Syntopix' or 'the Company')\n\n\n\nFIRST PRODUCTS PROGRESS INTO DEVELOPMENT\n\n\nSyntopix Group plc (AIM: SYN), the drug discovery and development company\nfocused on dermatological diseases, is delighted to announce that three\ncandidates from its research pipeline, for which patent applications have been\nmade, will be taken forward into clinical product development for the treatment\nof acne and staphylococcal infections.\n\n\nIn accordance with the Company's plans and as outlined in the Company's\nadmission document, SYN-24-0017 will become the first candidate to enter\npre-clinical development as a topical remedy for the prevention and treatment of\nskin infections due to Staphylococcus aureus.\n\n\nIn parallel, a synergistic combination of SYN-24-0017 with a metal salt will be\ndeveloped as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris. An additional remedy for\nacne will also be developed from a synergistic combination of SYN-24-0401 with\nSYN-24-0403 or its salt.\n\n\nThe compounds all have a history of use in man in line with the Company's\nreduced risk business model. SYN-24-0017 is an anti-oxidant present in a wide\nvariety of food and cosmetic products. SYN-24-0401 is an antifungal ingredient\nin personal care products. Compounds related to SYN-24-0403 are present in some\ncombination products for the treatment of secondarily infected atopic\ndermatitis. SYN-24-0017 and SYN-24-0401 are effective antimicrobials when used\nalone, but Syntopix has shown that their activity can be enhanced when used in\ncombination with certain metal salts or with SYN-24-0403 respectively.\n\n\nCommenting on this important milestone, CEO Rod Adams said: 'We are extremely\npleased to have made significant scientific advancements since the flotation of\nSyntopix in March this year.
