Grande Portage Resources Ltd. To Explore Former Underground Mines

[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nWardrop Engineering Inc. to Develop Strategic Plan\n\n\nVANCOUVER, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX-V GPG)\n("Grande Portage" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that it has engaged\nWardrop Engineering Ltd. to assist with the evaluation of environmental\nconditions at the Merry Widow open pit as well as the former underground\nworkings of the Old Sport Horizon. Company representatives will be onsite with\nsenior underground and environmental specialists from Wardrop this week.\n\n\nThe Old Sport Horizon was the host rock for two former producing\nunderground mines - Coast Copper and Benson Lake. The mines produced\nappreciable amounts of copper, gold, silver, cobalt and iron over almost a\ndecade before closing in late 1972 due largely to the low commodity prices at\nthe time. From 1960-1973 these mines processed 2,621,131 tonnes of ore that\nyielded 90,814,161 lb of copper, 377,165 oz of silver, 124,386 oz of gold and\n507,207 tonnes of iron. Airborne magnetic data has greatly helped to define\nthe geological trend and related mineral showings and further associated\ncopper-gold-cobalt targets.\n\n\nThe Company's geological team has had the benefit of reviewing the\nunderground data provided by former operators. As such, there is great\nenthusiasm surrounding this next phase of exploration aimed at accessing the\nOld Sport from an underground perspective. Grande Portage's helicopter\nairborne magnetic and time domain electro-magnetic geophysical survey outlined\nan 8.0 km long by up to 500 metres wide linear magnetic feature that coincides\nwith the location of the Old Sport Horizon and the historic underground\ndevelopment.\n\n\nPreliminary drill testing of this target was completed as part of the\nCompany's 2007 exploration work on the Old Sport Horizon. Drill hole step-outs\nsome 800 metres south of the underground workings intersected a magnetite-rich\nportion of the Old Sport Horizon at the basal contact of the Quatsino\nLimestone in the centre of the magnetic linear feature. The hole confirms that\nthe magnetic feature represents the Old Sport Horizon. Additional airborne\ncoverage completed in 2007 has extended the magnetic anomaly a further 1.5 km\nto the northwest, for a total length of 9.5 km, where it appears the magnetic\ntrend terminates against an east-northeast t...
