Genus PLC 16 July 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 16 July 2002 GENUS plc ACQUISITION Genus plc ('Genus'), the international agri-technology company, announces that yesterday it acquired the business and certain assets of Dunwood V.S. Ltd, a wholesale veterinary distribution business based in Aberdeen which is currently in receivership. Total consideration for the transaction is approximately £875,000 and will be paid in cash within 30 days. The approximate book value of net assets acquired is £1,050,000 and during the year ended 31 March 2002, Dunwood V.S. Ltd had unaudited operating profits of £112,000. Richard Wood, Chief Executive, said, 'Whilst this is a bolt on acquisition it will enable us to achieve a much stronger position in the important Scottish Market through an investment less than the net asset value of the business acquired. The Board of Genus remains focussed on developing its market leading cattle breeding business, but will continue to pursue opportunistic deals in all areas of the group's activities.'
