(\"Gabriel\") announces\nthat the environmental impact assessment (\"EIA\") for the Rosia Montana project\nis currently pending submission to the Romanian Ministry of Environment,\ntogether with all documents requested by the Ministry for a complete\napplication.\nRecent media commentary from a foreign sponsored NGO opposed to the\ndevelopment of the Rosia Montana project stating that the EIA procedure for\nthe project has been suspended, is both false and a gross misrepresentation of\nwhat was said in a meeting between Romanian Minister of the Environment,\nSulfina Barbu, and the European Environmental Commissioner, Stavros Dimas. A\npress statement released by the Romanian Ministry of Environment confirms the\ninaccuracy of this commentary.\n\"Circulating false and misleading statements regarding Gabriel's plans to\ndevelop the Rosia Montana project has become standard practice for this\ndesperate NGO\" commented Alan R. Hill, President and Chief Executive Officer\nof Gabriel, in reference to the continued campaign of misinformation\nperpetuated by foreign sponsored NGOs.\nMr. Hill added that \"Unfortunately, we can expect an increased level of\nmisinformation as Gabriel continues the development of the Rosia Montana\nproject. The Project will create employment, address the existing pollution\nand provide for a clean environment in the future as well as improve the\nliving standards in the Rosia Montana region.\"\nA European Union delegation visiting Romania this week to discuss\nenvironmental matters commented that the permitting of the Rosia Montana\nproject was a Romanian domestic affair, but that the European Union would\ncontinue to monitor the process. Gabriel welcomes such scrutiny, as the EIA\nhas been prepared by an independent team of Romanian and European Union\nenvironmental experts and is fully compliant with all Romanian laws and\nEuropean Union Directives, including the new European Union Mine Waste\nDirective.
