[{"type":"text","content":"\n Futura Medical PLC\n06 July 2006\n\n\n\n\nFor immediate release 6 July 2006\n\n\n Futura Medical plc\n\n Update on New Product Development\n\n\n\nFutura Medical plc (AIM: FUM), the AIM-listed pharmaceutical and medical device\ngroup that develops innovative products for the sexual health market, announces\na product development update to introduce three new products:\n\n\n\n• DCF100 - a topical analgesic formulation of a generic non-steroidal,\n anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).\n\n• PET500 - an over-the-counter topical treatment for premature\n ejaculation (PE) using established topical anaesthetics. \n\n• FSD500 - an over-the-counter treatment for female sexual dysfunction\n (FSD) using glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) as used in Futura's MED2002.\n\n\n\nFutura has developed a highly efficient and proprietary delivery system for the\nabsorption of active molecules through the skin. This delivery system is used in\na gel form for MED2002, the Company's topical treatment for men with erectile\ndysfunction (ED) currently undergoing late stage clinical trials.\n\n\n\nThe rapid absorption offered by this delivery system means that low doses of\ncertain compounds can be targeted, which brings potential benefits such as\ntargeted site of action, rapid speed of onset, potency and reduced side effects.\n\n\n\nTo maximise the value of this asset, Futura has been evaluating its use in a\nrange of compounds and has decided to conduct further trial work and market\nresearch on a topical NSAID and products for PE and FSD.\n\n\n\nDCF 100\n\nNSAIDs are widely used to reduce pain and inflammation in conditions such as\narthritis, rheumatism and sports injuries. Available in oral, topical and\ninjectable form for more than 30 years, many NSAIDs has been shown to be well\ntolerated although higher dose oral formulations result in significant adverse\ngastrointestinal events in some users.\n\n\n\nThe NSAID market is estimated to have achieved sales of $17.5 billion in 2005.\nTopical sales in the UK alone exceeded £52 million in 2004. The world leader in\nthe topical NSAID market is EmulgelTM, distributed by Novartis.\n\n\n\nDuring the Company's evaluation, a specific generic NSAID was identified as\nhaving the correct characteristics to benefit from Futura's gel delivery\ntechnology.
