[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nHALIFAX, Dec. 1 /CNW/ - (EMA: TSX) Today Emera announced plans for the\ntransition of the Chair of the Board of Directors of Nova Scotia Power Inc.\n(NSPI). George Caines, a partner in the Halifax office of Stewart McKelvey,\nwill assume the position of Chair of the Board of Directors of NSPI, effective\nMay 6, 2009. Mr. Caines will take over from John McLennan, who will be\nappointed to replace Derek Oland as Chair of the Board of NSPI's parent\ncompany, Emera Inc.\n\n\nMr. Caines has been a Director of NSPI since 1995 and is currently the\nChair of NSPI's Audit Committee. From 1998 to 2006, Mr. Caines was a member of\nthe Emera Board of Directors and also served as Chair of Emera's Audit\nCommittee.\n\n\n"For more than ten years, George's contributions to the Nova Scotia Power\nand Emera Boards have greatly contributed to the success of both companies,"\nsaid Chris Huskilson, President and CEO, Emera. "We look forward to his\nleadership at Nova Scotia Power as the company continues to build on its\ncleaner, greener strategy."\n\n\nMr. Caines is also President of the Neptune Theatre Foundation, a member\nof the Canadian Tax Foundation, Past Chairman of the Tax Subsection of the\nCanadian Bar Association Nova Scotia Branch, former member of the Joint\nCommittee of the Canadian Bar Association and Canadian Institute of Chartered\nAccountants on Taxation.\n\n\nMr. Caines practice areas include corporate/commercial, owner-managed\nbusiness, public-private partnerships and property leasing. He is a member of\nthe Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. In 2007\nand 2008, Mr. Caines was identified as one of the leading 500 lawyers in\nCanada by the Lexpert(R)/American Lawyer Guide.\n\n\nMr. Caines holds a BA from the University of King's College and an LL.B\nfrom Dalhousie University.
