Trading Symbol: PAX.TSX-V VANCOUVER, July 21 /CNW/ - Pacifica Resources Ltd. is pleased to report positive results from Dense Media Separation (DMS) testwork on samples from the XY deposit at their Howard's Pass project. Application of DMS technology has the potential to significantly increase the economics of mining this world class, zinc-lead deposit. In April 1977 US Steel Corporation reported on gravity testwork on diamond-drill core from Howard's Pass, which gave pre-concentration results that had a mineral content upgrade of over 200% with a rejection of 70% of the run-of-mine (ROM) material. The combined lead/zinc upgrade was from 10.9% to 29.2% with a lead and zinc recovery of 87% and 76% respectively. The recent preliminary (DMS) gravity testwork at SGS Lakefield Research utilized a grab sample from the mine dump of the XY deposit. The combined zinc+lead head grade of this sample was 21.8% which was upgraded to 29.0%, with lead and zinc recoveries at 98% and 97%, respectively. The high recoveries and effective upgrading of high grade mineralization is very encouraging. The positive, preliminary testwork results illustrate the potential for pre-concentration of mineralization from a wide range of run-of-mine (ROM) grades in the Howard's Pass deposits. The nature of the mineralization lends itself to DMS technology because there are high density bands of zinc-lead mineralization with very little pyrite, separated by barren shale beds of lower density. The Howard's Pass deposit contains large tonnages of zinc-lead mineralization much of which is shallow mineralization that may be amenable to open pit mining (see news releases of May 6, 2005 and July 20, 2005). A laboratory test program will commence shortly that will evaluate the known deposits. This testwork will be supervised by Godfrey McDonald. Mr. McDonald, a metallurgist, was instrumental in the successful implementation of a commercial DMS plant at Breakwater Resources Ltd's. Nanisivik mill in 2000. Demonstration of the successful application of this technology to Howard's Pass will be a very positive development to enhance the mining plan and processing by significantly upgrading the mill feed prior to the grinding and flotation stages for the production of saleable, selective concentrates. Mr. McDonald, who is Pacifica's consulting metallurgist, has reviewed the content of this News Release and is the Qualified Person within the meaning of National Instrument 43-101. Pacifica has commenced a $3.5 million exploration program in the Howard's Pass district that re-initiates the advancement of this major zinc-lead district. Pacifica is a junior resource company focused on exploration for base metals in the Americas. This press release may contain forward-looking statements based on assumptions and judgments of management regarding future events or results that may prove to be inaccurate as a result of exploration and other risk factors beyond its control and actual results may differ materially from the expected results.
