Sarah Jane Thomson, Joint Chief Executive, said: 'We are deeply saddened by this tragic news and our thoughts are with his family at this time. He became Chairman in May 2000 when the company listed. John made an invaluable contribution to Thomson Intermedia and has been a vital ingredient to its success to date. All those who worked with John will sorely miss him.'
