Positive results obtained from laboratory optimization program for nickel recovery

TORONTO, June 3 /CNW/ - Dr. Gene Shelp, President and CEO of ENPAR Technologies Inc. (TSX V: ENP), ("ENPAR") is pleased to report that positive results have been obtained from its optimization program.

Reactor tests have demonstrated 70% and 90% dissolution, respectively, of the Ni in tailings using single and multiple-stage leach reactors. Optimization is on-going with future emphasis on iron separation and recovery and on the development of a novel acid recovery system. ENPAR's technical team remains optimistic that future developments will result in a viable metal recovery system capable of competing with low-cost nickel producers.

The commercial success of the ExtrEL technology will result in the economic recovery of nickel, base metals, elemental sulphur or sulphuric acid, and precious metals such as rhodium from nickel-rich pyrrhotite tailings, which is currently a waste material.

In addition, there is the added benefit to the mining industry of converting this specific environmental liability into a more benign material, thereby facilitating lower cost disposal and the implementation of innovative long-term management practices such as its use underground as paste backfill.

A detailed report outlining the results of the optimization program has been submitted to Dundarave. Upon receiving commentary from Dundarave and its technical expert, the parties will jointly examine the development and commercialization strategies for the ExtrEL technology.
