[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\nTORONTO, May 31 /CNW/ - ENPAR Technologies Inc. (\"ENPAR\" or \"the\nCompany\") is pleased to announce that it has received a patent for its AmmEL\nSystem. Additional patents for the technology in Canada, the European Union\nand the United States are anticipated within the near future.\nThe current patent is for improvements made to the Company's US and\nCanadian patents that were awarded on July 4, 2000 and December, 2005,\nrespectively. The improvements broaden the applications of the technology,\nwhich now include treatment of solutions resulting from dewatering of sludge\nor bio-solids and containing extremely high levels of ammonia (500-1500 parts\nper million), as well as tertiary treatment of solutions containing relatively\nlow levels of ammonia (10-50 parts per million).\nDr. Gene Shelp, President and CEO of ENPAR, states that \"historically,\nthe company files first in the United Kingdom in order to establish the\nprior-art-date or date-of-disclosure, then patent applications are filed in\nthe United States, Europe, and Canada, and then in other jurisdictions of\ninterest\".\nThe handling of sludge produced from municipal waste water treatment\nrepresents a major challenge for all levels of government as they strive to\ndevelop a risk-free management strategy. A key approach is to develop a\nbiosolid product from the sludge, which is free of environmental concerns and\ncan be applied directly to the land. Alternatively, energy can be extracted\nfrom the biosolids via various burning technologies. Regardless of the\nultimate fate of the biosolids product, water must be removed from the sludge,\nand this water contains ammonia at toxic levels. The AmmEL-HC System is\nproving to be extremely effective in converting this ammonia directly into\nenvironmentally friendly nitrogen gas. The AmmEL-HC System enables\nmunicipalities to achieve year-round compliance with government-mandated\nenvironmental standards and regulations.\n\nENPAR is a \"Technology Company\" applying its patented and proprietary\n\"Electrochemical Technologies\" to the treatment of waste water and drinking\nwater contaminated by metals or nutrients i.e., nitrate/ammonia associated\nwith the mining, metal processing, chemical, agricultural, municipal and waste\nmanagement sectors.
