The service is being installed by Pinnacle whose customers include the BBC for outside broadcast connectivity and Cheltenham Festivals for connectivity and Wi-Fi.\nThe backbone for the test Wi-Fi services will be provided from the network already installed by Pinnacle for The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, where free Wi-Fi is being offered to visitors and guests.\nEarlier testing was completed in 2011, so there is confidence in the trial being successful. Pinnacle has also provided services at the Cheltenham Jazz, Science and Music Festivals earlier this year.\nSubject to the results and levels of interest, the service is expected to be launched in early 2013, offering businesses in the area private data links ranging in speed from 20Mb up to 100Mb, with options for home offices and domestic use. More typical speeds will be between 10Mb and 30Mb, with equipment to allow multiple users to work at a single site, being supplied as part of a standard package.\nIf the test is successful, the new Cheltenham area service will use high capacity fibre links to the Internet, allowing businesses and homes across the city to be connected in a variety of ways. Customers close to a main transmitter will be able to log onto the system direct from a computer, tablet, smartphone or other device. Others will be able to connect using a small receiver, making it possible to use the service at up to 5 miles from a base station.\nBusinesses and homes close to the city centre or Cheltenham racecourse will be able to test the service by selecting the wireless network \"Pinnacle Cheltenham Test\".
