[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n\nCALGARY, Alberta July 11, 2013 /CNW/ - Cenovus Energy has published its\n 2012 corporate responsibility report detailing the company's efforts to\n protect the health and safety of its workers, safeguard the\n environment, invest in and engage with local communities and maintain\n the highest standards of corporate governance and transparency.\n\n\n\"We're committed to developing our energy resources in a responsible and\n environmentally-conscious way,\" said Jim Campbell, Cenovus\n Vice-President of Government Affairs & Corporate Responsibility. \"This\n report allows our stakeholders to track our progress and see how we're\n living up to that commitment.\"\n\n\nCenovus's corporate responsibility highlights for 2012 include:\n\n\nInvesting millions of dollars in innovation and research to support more\n than 100 ongoing technology development projects, three-quarters of\n which could have environmental benefits\n\nSpending more than $1 billion with local companies in Cenovus's\n operating areas, of which about a third went to Aboriginal-owned\n businesses and joint ventures\n\nSigning two additional long-term agreements with First Nations\n communities. The company now has a total of four community agreements\n that allow Cenovus and First Nations communities in its operating areas\n to mutually benefit from energy development\n\nDonating 800 used office suites to hundreds of local charities and\n non-profit organizations in Calgary through The Cenovus Suite Give-Away\n\nMaking a significant commitment to the Global Corporate Challenge to\n track steps and other physical activity by being the Canadian company\n with the largest number of teams entered and more than one-third of\n staff members participating\n\nBeing named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time. Cenovus was the only Canadian oil and gas company\n to make the index last year.
