[{"type":"text","content":"\n Angle PLC\n17 May 2006\n\n\n \nFor Immediate Release 17 May 2006\n\n\n ANGLE plc\n ('ANGLE' or 'the Company')\n\n New Venture Company: Kaloptics, Inc.\n\nANGLE plc ('ANGLE'), the venture management and consulting company specialising \nin the commercialisation of technology, is pleased to announce that it has signed \nan agreement with New York University (NYU) to commercialise innovative technology \ndeveloped at the Media Research Lab in the Computer Science Department of NYU's \nCourant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The agreement was effective on 30 \nApril but for reasons of commercial confidentiality was embargoed until now.\n\n\nResearchers Ken Perlin, PhD and Jeff Han have developed a patent-pending\nkaleidoscope and software system that enables the rapid capture and recreation\nof photo-realistic surface images. The technology has a wide range of commercial\napplications in multi-billion dollar industries, including special effects,\nanimation, computer gaming and medical devices.\n\n\nAs part of its normal model for venture creation, ANGLE has formed and will\nincubate Kaloptics, Inc. to lead the technology commercialisation, market and IP\nassessment, and business strategy. ANGLE will contribute the initial management\nof Kaloptics and lead a seed financing round for the company.\n\n\nKen Perlin is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at NYU and was\nfounding director of its Media Research Lab. His research interests include\ngraphics, animation, user interfaces and multimedia. He also received an Academy\nAward for Technical Achievement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and\nSciences.\n\n\nJeff Han, a computer science researcher at NYU, has been working in the fields\nof real-time computer graphics, computer vision, human-computer interfaces and\nmachine learning for over ten years.\n\n\n\nANGLE's Chief Executive, Andrew Newland, said:\n\n\n'We are delighted to be working with New York University and its Media Research\nLab.
