[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n\nEDMONTON, Oct. 4, 2011 /CNW/ - With an employee safety record that\n ranked in the top quartile for utilities across Canada in 2010, Capital\n Power (TSX: CPX) today received a Canadian Electricity Association\n (CEA) President's Award of Excellence for Employee Safety.\n\n\n\"In order to be a great place to work, Capital Power must be a safe\n place to work, and our goal is zero injuries,\" said Capital Power\n President and CEO Brian Vaasjo.  \"Ambitious targets for safety\n performance, and a belief that incidents are preventable when safety is\n properly managed, are part of the culture we are building at Capital\n Power.\"\n\n\nDuring construction of the Keephills 3 facility, one of the largest and\n busiest construction sites in Alberta over the past five years, Capital\n Power achieved one of the best safety records in the industry, with\n less than one lost time incident per 1.7 million hours worked.\n\n\n\"CEA member utilities have a long-standing commitment to protecting\n employees, contractors and communities from injuries and fatalities,\"\n said CEA President and CEO Pierre Guimond.  \"Capital Power is a leading\n example, having established a zero-injury culture as a primary\n corporate goal.\"\n\n\nThe CEA President's Awards are based on hard data measuring injuries and\n illness statistics. Recipients must be within the top quartile in two\n categories: 1) All Injury/Illness Frequency rates; and 2) Lost-Time\n Injury Severity rates.\n\n\nThe three award levels are bronze, silver, and gold. Companies receive\n gold for meeting the criteria for three or more consecutive years,\n silver for two consecutive years, and bronze for meeting the criteria\n for the given year.
