(TSXV: BQE)\n \n , a leader in the management\nof mine wastewaters and metallurgical bleed streams, is the proud\nrecipient of the 2021 Environmental Award from the Engineers &\nGeoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) for its Kemess Selen-IX™ Plant\nto remove selenium from mine water. The award is granted to a project\ndemonstrating outstanding achievement in engineering excellence in its\ncontribution towards environmental protection and environmental\nenhancement.\n \n \n The Kemess plant is the first full-scale water treatment plant to\nutilize our physicochemical Selen-IX™ technology to remove the\nselenate form of selenium from mine water. It represents a step change\nfor the mining industry to address the growing environmental issue\nrelated to selenium. The plant provides proof of concept for the\nremoval of selenium to less than 2 parts per billion without reliance\non dilution to comply with end-of-pipe water quality regulations,\navoids the risks of acute and chronic toxicity linked with biological\ntreatment, supports intermittent and/or seasonal operations, and\neliminates the long-term liabilities associated with waste management\nby producing a stable and non-toxic by-product with reuse potential in\nsteel production.\n \n \n “Being recognized with the EGBC Environmental Award for our Kemess\nSelen-IX™ project means everything to us,” said David Kratochvil,\nPresident & CEO of BQE Water. “It has been a long road with\ncountless hours and through it all, our team was steadfast in their\nperseverance and dedication. I also want to acknowledge the role of\nCenterra Gold, Seabridge Gold and their respective First Nations\npartners for their commitment to seek better solutions for the\nenvironment by embracing innovation. As we move towards a low carbon\nfuture, environmentally responsible mining is essential to supply the\nneeded metals. Many mine sites have selenium as a contaminant of\nconcern and Selen-IX™ will contribute to the sustainable extraction\nof metals worldwide.”\n \n \n Selenium is a micronutrient essenti...
