BCL is working to advance the redevelopment of Bougainville's Panguna mine under its five-year exploration licence, granted in 2024.\n \n \n Sir Melchior said it was a privilege to be entrusted with the CEO role on an ongoing basis. \"It is a great challenge, but in the interests of my people and the Autonomous Bougainville Government, it is a privilege to be involved in delivering the Panguna project in the best way possible,\" he said.\n \n \n Sir Melchior is a prominent Bougainvillean with extensive experience in the resources industry in PNG and abroad, particularly in the minerals sector for more than three decades. He also previously held several senior positions with Bougainville's former North Solomons Provincial Government.\n \n \n Sir Melchior was appointed to the BCL board in 2017 and served as chairman from February 2018 to March 2026. Following the sudden passing of CEO Johnny Patterson Auna last August, he agreed to serve as acting CEO and his permanent appointment was affirmed at BCL's recent board meeting.\n \n \n The ABG is now BCL's majority shareholder with a 72.9% share in the company following the transfer of shares previously owned by the Independent State of PNG.
