(NASDAQ: NRMX, TSX: NRM)\nannounces today important initiatives including the expansion of its product\ncandidate portfolio, the refocusing of its proprietary R&D assets and the\nexpected reduction of its burn rate compared to fiscal 2007. As part of these\ninitiatives, Neurochem is:\n\n\n- Moving its next generation lead candidate NRM-8499 into preclinical\n development for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is also\n announcing the early termination of its European Phase III clinical\n trial for tramiprosate (ALZHEMED(TM)).\n- Taking steps, in light of promising results from preliminary post-hoc\n analysis of the data from the North American Phase III trial for\n tramiprosate, to commercialize this product as a branded nutraceutical,\n starting as early as 2008.\n- Continuing to advance its programs for Amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis as\n well as for Diabetes Type II/features of metabolic syndrome.\n\n"Our goal is to provide innovative health solutions to patients suffering\nfrom serious diseases as soon as possible," said Dr. Francesco Bellini,\nChairman, President and CEO of Neurochem.
