[{"type":"text","content":"\nJACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 5, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Blue Water Ventures International, Inc., (\"BWVI\") a publicly traded company (OTC:BWVI) engaged in the search and recovery of Historic Shipwrecks, has begun mobilizing a large side scan sonar survey to be conducted off the east coast of the United States. BWVI personnel have begun preparing our boats, systems and support equipment for operations scheduled to begin next week.\n\n\tPhase One operations will focus on a fifty square mile area along Florida's Treasure Coast. This area of Florida's coast is famous for the wrecks of the great Spanish Treasure Fleet of 1715. Several of the ships of this fleet have never been located. Our operations will focus in deeper water off the coast where historical research indicates one or more of the lost galleons may be located.\n\n\tSide Scan Sonar\n\n\tSide-scan uses a sonar device that emits conical or fan-shaped pulses down toward the seafloor across a wide angle perpendicular to the path of the sensor through the water, which may be towed from a surface vessel or submarine, or mounted on the ship's hull. The intensity of the acoustic reflections from the seafloor of this fan-shaped beam is recorded in a series of cross-track slices. When stitched together along the direction of motion, these slices form an image of the sea bottom within the swath (coverage width) of the beam. The sound frequencies used in side-scan sonar usually range from 100 to 500 kHz; higher frequencies yield better resolution but less range.\n\n\tLearn more about sonar at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side-scan_sonar\n\n\tDiscoveries\n\n\tSide scan sonar has proven to be one of our industry's most efficient and cost effective technologies for locating shipwrecks.
