Appointment of Richard Charkin
Bloomsbury Publishing Plc has today appointed Richard Charkin an Executive
Director of the Company with effect from 1 October 2007.
Richard joins the team with responsibility for operations worldwide and with
particular focus on spearheading growth through acquisitions, new publishing
areas and international expansion.
Richard began his career in 1972 as Science Editor of Harrap & Co. He has since
held senior roles at Pergamon Press, Oxford University Press, Reed International
/Reed Elsevier, Current Science Group, culminating in his current position as
Chief Executive Officer Macmillan Publishers Limited and Executive Director of
Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck. He is also currently Chairman of Macmillan
India Ltd., a company listed on the Madras and Bombay Stock Exchanges, and the
National Stock Exchange of India. In relation to Richard's appointment there are
no other details to disclose under paragraph 9.6.13 (1) to (6) of the Listing
Rules.
Other publishing interests of Richard include being Non-Executive Director of
Melbourne University Publishing, Non-Executive Director of Wisden Group, Member
of the Strategy Advisory Board of the British Library, Chair of the Society of
Bookmen and he was recently President of the Publishers Association.
