Do, CEO of BioVie. “Due to the rapid increase in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and other ongoing causes of liver cirrhosis, the serious complication of ascites is placing a growing burden on the U.S healthcare system. Our goal for this program is to help improve the understanding among potential patients and the medical community of disease-related conditions such as ascites and hepatorenal syndrome and to evaluate more candidates for enrollment in our clinical development program.” “Our mission is to provide education, advocacy and other support services to everyone whose life is impacted by liver diseases,” said Lorraine Stiehl, CEO of the American Liver Foundation. “We are grateful for the support of our industry partners and pleased to work with BioVie to enhance their efforts to make a difference in the lives of cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites.” Ascites is a common complication of advanced liver cirrhosis involving the accumulation of large volumes of fluid in the abdomen, often exceeding 5 liters, due to liver and kidney dysfunction.
