[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nGUELPH, ON, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - BIOREM Inc. (TSXV:BRM) announced today the\nintroduction of a new biofiltration media called XLD. This new media is the\nresult of five years of extensive research and development with the support of\nthe National Research Council of Canada through the Industrial Research\nAssistance Program. XLD is targeted at the removal of odors from the handling\nof biosolids at municipal wastewater treatment plants.\n\n\n"The global market for odor control in municipal applications is\nestimated at over $1 billion per year. Over half of this market is currently\nprovided by chemical scrubbers." says Peter Bruijns, President and CEO.\n\n\nBiosolids generate highly odorous sulfur compounds that traditionally\nrequire larger biofilters to achieve acceptable removal rates. However, by\nusing an XLD biofilter, the size can be reduced by up to 50% of conventional\nunits while also having greater removal capacity. "The exceptional odor\nremoval performance of XLD in a small footprint makes the installation of\nchemical scrubbers unwarranted." says Mr. Bruijns. "Scrubbers consume large\namounts of chemicals and more than twice the electricity of an XLD biofilter.\nThus, an XLD biofilter is more environmentally friendly and is a significant\ncontributor to greenhouse gas reductions."\n\n\nDuring field trials, XLD consistently achieved up to 99% removal of\nodorous compounds in approximately half of the industry's standard residence\ntime. This compares favorably with conventional biofilter technologies that\nrarely achieve removal rates above 95%.\n\n\nBiofilters have been used for odor control since the early 1990's and\nhave evolved as an environmentally preferred technology for odor control in\nmunicipal wastewater treatment plants and collection systems.\n\n\nAbout BIOREM Inc.\n\n\nBIOREM manufactures Biosorbens(R) biofilter media and is a leading\nsupplier of biofilters for air pollution control in municipal and industrial\napplications, including BIOCUBE(R) modular units and Mytilus(R) biotrickling\nfilters. With over 500 installed systems and over a decade of experience, the\ncompany's products are the technology of choice for odor control at wastewater\ntreatment plants across North America.
