CALGARY, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Bengal Energy Ltd. (TSX: BNG) ("Bengal" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Cuisinier 5 well (the "Cuisinier 5"), the second well in the 2012 Cuisinier appraisal drilling campaign on the Barta Block portion ( the "Barta Block") of ATP 752P in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin, Australia, is to be cased as a future oil producer.
The Cretaceous Murta member, DC70 sand was the primary target and the zone came in high to prognosis encountering approximately 4.5 metres of sandstone with a preliminary estimate of a minimum of 2 metres net pay. The DC70 sand appears to be located within an interpreted channel environment which exhibits well developed porosity. A drill stem test carried out by the operator recovered 53.2 degree API oil and gas cut drilling fluid.
This positive recovery of oil expands the area of oil bearing sediments a further 1,600 metres south of the Cuisinier 1 well and has confirmed the continuation of the DC70 channel trend from the recently drilled Cuisinier 4 well to Cuisinier 5. This interpreted channel trend is now seen as oil bearing over a distance of approximately 2,600 metres with limited indications of water from all DC70 production, log and well test data available to date from the wells drilled in this trend. Cuisinier 5 is the sixth successful well of the six wells drilled to date.
Two additional wells will follow immediately with the next being Cuisinier 6 located approximately 1,250 metres northeast of Cuisinier 1. The operator expects to commence completion activities in July once the drilling campaign has been completed.
Bengal holds a 25% working interest in the Barta Block, ATP 752P.
