There are currently more\nthan 60 labourers working on the construction project and 90% are\nlocal hires from Sangihe Island. This number will significantly\nincrease once production commences. All equipment required for\nconstruction will be contracted on the island. Materials that are not\navailable locally will be sourced from Manado which is in the same\nprovince as Sangihe. The construction of the heap leach facility does\nnot require the removal or relocation of any residences.\n \n \n Baru Gold, along with its contractors, have cleared the principal\nproduction area, including grubbing and are in the process of rough\ngrading to plan. The next focus will be to construct pond berms and\ncompacting to engineering specifications in preparation for\ninstallation of the leach pad liner and processing facility\ninstallation.\n \n \n \n Heap leaching\n \n is\nan industrial mining process used to extract precious metals and\nother compounds from ore using a series of chemical reactions that\nabsorb specific minerals and re-separate them after their division\nfrom other earth materials. A form of lower cost methods of mining,\nheap leach mining differs in that it places ore on a liner, then adds\nthe chemicals via drip systems to the ore, whereas\n \n in situ\n \n mining lacks these liners\nand pulls pregnant solution up to obtain the minerals. Heap leaching\nis widely used in modern large-scale mining operations as it produces\nthe desired concentrates at a lower cost compared to conventional\nprocessing methods such as flotation, agitation, and vat leaching.\n \n \n Terry Filbert, President...
