[{"type":"text","content":"\n \nAvacta Group plc\n\nDelivery of prototype mobile chemical detection system to MOD Porton Down\n\nAvacta Group plc (\"Avacta\"), which develops detection and analysis technology\naimed at the pharmaceutical, diagnostics and defence & security markets,\nannounces it has successfully delivered on its contract with the UK Ministry of\nDefence Laboratories at Porton Down. As announced on 3 September 2007, Avacta\nentered into a contract with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\n(Dstl) to develop a prototype device for mobile detection of chemicals in the\nfield using its laser detection and diagnostic technology.\n\nAvacta completed its development work on schedule and has delivered the\ntechnology to the MOD for testing. The aim is to provide improved capabilities\nfor the identification of chemicals at a safe distance which could be of\nsignificant benefit to the homeland security and defence sectors.\n\nThe Directors believe that there are commercialisation opportunities for Avacta\nboth in military and civilian markets, as the rapid detection of unknown\nsubstances at a safe distance could have numerous applications and strong\ndemand.\n\nProfessor Alastair Smith, Chief Executive, Avacta, commented:\n\n\"The development team has done an outstanding job to deliver a complex and\nadvanced system on time to the MOD and is expecting a positive outcome\nfollowing the testing now being undertaken. We are working with Porton Down\nthroughout this phase and are excited about developing the final product for\nuse in the field.\n\nThis long range chemical identification system could be of great benefit to\nsecurity and defence operations world wide.
