reported first-quarter net earnings of $1.8 million U.S. or $0.01 U.S. per share compared to $2.5 million U.S. or $0.02 U.S. per share in the same period in 2009. Earnings before other items was $12.6 million U.S. or $0.09 U.S. per share compared to $4.6 million U.S. or $0.04 U.S. per share in the same period in 2009. The company stated that the improvement was positively impacted by a $3.9-million U.S. decrease in general and administrative expenses over the prior-year period.
