[{"type":"text","content":"\n \nRNS Number : 9751X Amlin PLC 20 January 2014  \n \n\n \nAmlin plc\n \nAmlin Europe enters German insurance market\n \n20 January 2014\n \nAmlin Europe has received permission from DNB and BaFin, the Dutch and German regulatory authorities, respectively, to open a branch office and offer insurance products in Germany from 1st January, 2014. Amlin Europe has appointed Mr. Martin Bircks to lead its new operation in Germany, effective on 1st February, 2014, as Managing Director (Hauptbevollmächtigter).\n \nOperating from Hamburg as a branch of Amlin Europe N.V., the company will focus on building a portfolio of specialised commercial SME Property and Casualty business, offering niche products. Expanding Amlin Europe's non-marine business into Germany is part of Amlin's long-term strategy to profitably grow its Continental European insurance business. \n \nPrior to joining Amlin Europe, Mr. Bircks worked for Zurich Insurance Group where he was Head of Liability, Casualty and Legal Protection, Head of Product Management Commercial Lines and, from 2010, Head of Marketing Unit Management Broker General Insurance.\n \nMr. Bircks studied Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund before joining HDI-Gerling Insurance in 1994. He brings to Amlin Europe an extensive network of contacts in the German market, two decades of experience in the relevant market segments and prior experience in setting up a new insurance operation. Mr. Bircks's appointment is subject to the approval of the DNB. \n \nKim Hvirgel, CEO of Amlin Europe commented: \"We have chosen Germany as our fourth home insurance market, after the Netherlands, Belgium and France, because of its specific characteristics. Germany is the third largest insurance market in the world and its distribution, co-insurance and product set-up are in line with Amlin Europe's existing business model. Hamburg is an important business hub and one of the main centres of insurance in Germany.\"\n \nCharles Philipps, CEO of Amlin plc said: \"Amlin Europe has a well-established position in the Benelux and French markets with a strong client proposition.
