[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nTORONTO, June 22 /CNW/ - Asian Television Network International Limited\n(ATN) (TSX-SAT), Canada's largest South Asian broadcaster and largest\ndistributor of World Class Cricket, is delighted to announce it has received\napproval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission\n(CRTC) for ten more digital television licences to better serve the growing\ndemand for movies, music, news, sports and entertainment in South Asian\ncommunities across Canada.\n\n\nThe licences are for channels which will broadcast live news and sporting\nevents from South Asia, Canada and other parts of the world, as well as movies\nand music.\n\n\n"We are proud of this major addition of three sports services, three news\nservices, two movie, and two music channels to our portfolio of South Asian\ntelevision services in Canada," said Mr. Shan Chandrasekar, ATN's president\nand CEO.\n\n\nThe company currently operates 14 specialty television channels as well\nas ATN Asian Radio on XM 159, the only Satellite Radio serving North America's\nSouth Asian Diaspora. ATN video content is also available on any Bell mobile\nphone that supports video. ATN has programming alliances with leading\ninternational broadcasters and is the long-term rights holder for the Indian\nPremier League (IPL), ICC World Cricket and ICC World Cup Cricket.\n\n\nSouth Asians are Canada's largest and fastest growing visible minority\ngroup. According to the 2006 Census the group numbered more than 1.2 million\npeople - a 37% increase over 2001.
