The agreement demonstrates the\nCompany's firm commitment to leadership in the commercial production of\nultra-high performance acetylated timber which it markets under the brand name\nof AccoyaTM. As well as signalling the company's geographic expansion, the move\nalso ensures that Titan Wood will provide the best technology to its\ninternational licensees at competitive prices.\n\n\n\nTitan Wood specialises in the development of new wood technologies and is on\ntrack to begin commercial production of AccoyaTM later this year.\n\n\n\nThe technology acquired from Scion will be tested in Titan Wood's large scale\npilot plant over the coming months with the aim of adopting it for use in its\nnew 30,000m3 production facility. Licensees will be offered the enhanced\ntechnology once full-scale trials are completed\n\n\n\nThe exclusive agreement between Scion and Titan Wood cements a relationship that\nhas been built over the past two years. Close collaboration has enabled Titan\nWood to identify some improvements in the economics of its process by\nintegrating Scion's technology into its own. The agreement includes a research\nand development programme which Scion will deliver through Ensis, its\nunincorporated joint venture with the Commonwealth Scientific and Research\nOrganization in Australia.\n\n\n\nAccoyaTM is made through the acetylation of wood, a process which increases the\namount of 'acetyl' molecules (which are present in all species of wood),\ndelivering exceptional performance attributes. The process protects wood from\nrot by making it inedible to most micro-organisms and insects without making it\ntoxic, unlike conventional treatments.\n\n\n\nAccoyaTM benefits from almost total dimensional stability: swelling and\nshrinkage are virtually eliminated and the wood is far less prone to cracking or\nwarping. In addition, AccoyaTM w...
