6ix PDAC - A Comprehensive Guide to PDAC 2023

Introduction

As one of the world’s largest mining and exploration conventions, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual convention is a must-attend event for professionals in the industry. With its diverse range of programming, exhibition showcases and networking opportunities, the PDAC convention is the perfect platform for individuals and organizations to connect, learn and share ideas about the latest trends and innovations in mining and exploration. As PDAC 2023 approaches, preparing for the event is important to ensure you get the most out of your experience. In this guide, we will provide you with helpful tips and recommendations to help you navigate PDAC 2023 and make the most of your time at the conference.

History

The PDAC is a nonprofit organization representing the mineral exploration and development industry to promote a responsible and sustainable sector. PDAC was founded in 1932 as the Canadian Association of Prospectors and Developers (CAPD) by seven prospectors who faced significant challenges in financing and finding mineral deposits. The CAPD merged with the Canadian Mining Institute in 1946 to form the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM), focusing on promoting research and development and providing education and training for mining professionals.

In 1971, the CIM transferred the annual mining convention’s responsibility to the newly formed Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). The first PDAC convention was held in Toronto in 1972. Today, the PDAC convention has become the world’s leading mineral exploration and mining convention, attracting thousands of participants worldwide, including mining companies, investors, governments and other stakeholders. The convention provides a platform for networking, education and showcasing new technologies and products.

The PDAC is also actively promoting responsible mining practices and sustainable development. The organization works with governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders to develop policies and practices that balance economic development with environmental and social responsibility. In recent years, the PDAC has also become an advocate for increased diversity and inclusion in the mining sector, recognizing the industry has historically been male-dominated and taking steps to encourage more women and underrepresented groups to enter the field.

In summary, the PDAC’s history reflects the evolution of the Canadian mining industry over the past century. The organization has played a key role in promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices and providing a platform for networking, education and showcasing new technologies and products. The annual PDAC convention is a must-attend event for anyone interested in the mineral exploration and mining sector.

How to Attend PDAC 2023

Before attending, you must decide if you’d like to become a member of the PDAC or sign up as a non-member. Both options offer different benefits and experiences. Here are some key differences:

  • Access to member-only resources: PDAC members can access exclusive resources such as research reports, industry data, webinars and networking events unavailable to non-members.
  • Discounts on registration fees: PDAC members usually receive discounted registration fees for the annual convention and other events, which can be significant savings for individuals and companies attending regularly.
  • Brand recognition: Being a PDAC member can enhance brand recognition in the mining and exploration industry, as it is a well-established and respected organization.
  • Opportunities for leadership and volunteering: PDAC members can participate in various committees, working groups and boards, providing opportunities for leadership and volunteering to enhance their professional development.
  • Voting rights: PDAC members can vote in the annual general meeting and participate in shaping the association’s policies and strategies.

Attending PDAC as a non-member can still offer valuable opportunities for learning, networking and business development. Non-members can participate in the convention and other events, access the trade show, attend technical sessions and meet with exhibitors and sponsors. However, they may miss out on member-only benefits and discounts and the recognition and status of being an association member.
