Rick Rule Series: Investing in Commodities During a Recession
On Thursday, August 11, 2022, we had the pleasure of hosting the Rick Rule Series: Investing in Commodities During a Recession summit. Moderated by investment guru Rick Rule, in the first session of the panel, we had the opportunity to have a dynamic discussion with Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, President & CEO of Contango ORE, Ali Haji, CEO and Director of ION Energy, Doug Ramshaw, President & Director of Minera Alamos and Julian Treger, President, CEO & Director of CoTec. Our panellists shared their perspectives on the opportunities and risks they have personally experienced and predict will happen when navigating the murky waters of investing during a recession. The conversation was centred around similar sentiments that despite a recession being inevitable, the current market offers a good entry point and buying opportunity for investors. With the junior market being relatively undervalued, our panellists shared how a better job can be done in educating people on how the mining industry is also creating solutions.
Highlights:
“The transition to alternative energy or non-carbon based energy and transportation, that’s just a big inflationary pressure that’s going to be with us probably for the next 20-30 years. It’s not going to be short-lived. Inflation is here. It’s real.“ – Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, President & CEO of Contango ORE
“How you are seen as a corporate citizen in a country, that to me is where you’re making a real impact. Whether it’s Mexico, Peru, or Alaska, you have an opportunity to impact the local people in a very positive manner. That’s what drives me, that’s what drives Minera. That’s what we’ll be proud of.” – Doug Ramshaw, President & Director of Minera Alamos
“We like to work on the ground with local communities. It’s a rule of law, if your local community doesn’t like your project, you’re screwed. So our motto is always meet early, meet often, be transparent and listen.” – Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, President & CEO of Contango ORE
“…We are actually the solution for a lot of the problems that they’re looking to have resolved…I think as a sector, we have to do a better job of educating people.” – Doug Ramshaw, President & Director of Minera Alamos
